CROSS-DISCIPLINARY APPROACH

Re-Imagining HPHA Series

The Re-Imagining HPHA Series is an interdepartmental and multidisciplinary initiative conducted for the Hawai‘i Public Housing Authority by a group of Principal Investigators at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa through the University of Hawai‘i Community Design Center aimed at re-thinking public housing programs and facilities in an effort to support HPHA’s mission and long term goals.

A series of three studies encompass qualitative and quantitative assessments through various research methods, workshops, interviews, and other engagement exercises to inform future operations, policies, renovation efforts, and capital improvement projects.

This collaboration included Principal Investigators at the School of Architecture (SoA), the Department of Sociology (DOS), and the Department of Urban & Regional Planning (DURP).
